Ruffle Scarf Journey

Hello! Hope it's nice and sunny for you! The rain doesn't seem to be letting up here... I've lots of screen printing orders to complete and waiting for a break in the rain! Otherwise it's been perfect weather for sewing, so it's all about finishing Ruffle Scarves for Saturday's Olive Tree Market. Here's a little photo journey of our Ruffle Scarf processes... the flower mashing(for our botanical ruffles) is still my favourite part...

Ruffle Scarves at Ivy + Bird

We parceled up a box of these Elkhorn Ruffle Scarves amongst other goodies and sent them to our wonderful new stockist Ivy + Bird in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. We meet Ivy & Bird owner Maria on our recent visit to Brissy for the Finders Keepers. It so refreshing to walk into her inspiring store and be greeted with a welcoming hello. I couldn't be happier to have our scarves sold at Ivy + Bird. What makes Ivy + Bird so unique is they hand-make a lot of their own beautiful designs in-store from cushions to clothing. What they don't have time to produce they source from local & international designers. It is a store I would definitely recommend you pop into, it takes you slightly off the beaten track, which I love!

As promised here are a couple of the Ruffle Scarves we created with the mashed flower fabric from yesterdays post. More close up photos but I wanted to show the flower prints in detail on the scarves.

Winter flower mashing

I got into a bit of flower smashing last week and I am really happy with the results. Our garden is full of beautiful flowers through Winter which makes the cold days feel a little brighter. I love the unpredicted results the mashed flowers leave on the fabric. Each time I discover new & wonderful results with different seasonal flowers. Looking back at the last flowers I smashed in Spring they are quite different from the results here. This smashed flower fabric was used in a bundle of Ruffle Scarves sent to our new wholesaler Ivy & Bird in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane! Which we are very excited about. I will show you the results of the Ruffle scarves in our next post!

Camellia ruffles

I love the garden in autumn with it's hazy hues of pink... it feels romantically, old fashioned. Mana(Nan) loved Camellias, so the garden is full of their gorgeous flowers. I always remember them displayed so beautifully in a crystal bowl. Their soft delicate petals & subtle tones have inspired me to create a collection of 'camellia themed' Ruffle Scarves. Below is the start of them along with my amateur flower arranging. I think they would be a sweet addition to an autumn outfit, adding a touch of romance x

 

 

 

 

Elkhorn sighted at Pretty Beach to Ferry Street

 

 

 

 

 

  

I never get bored of looking for location spots for Elkhorn. There are endless choices of old weathered jetties. Hardys bay along to Wagstaff is one of my favourite places on the Central Coast. It still has some of that old world holiday charm with little fibro shacks & faded putt putt boats.  It seemed appropriate to photograph Elkhorn's new Ruffle Scarves and Dahlia Swing Tanks with a water backdrop. Needless to say the camera's batteries died half way through(no spares on hand of course!) so I bought a delicious sourdough loaf for lunch from The Fat Goose and wrapped up the shoot down the ole favourite, Ettalong wharf. Hope you enjoy the photos... The blue boat was called "Elma" and had a patch of faux grass placed on the back... do you think the owner plays "putt putt" on it?

Spring flower mashing

It was just one of the beautiful Spring days yesterday... a teaser of things to come! The garden is full of all the old fashion flowers at the moment.. daisies, geraniums and lavender. No better time then to do some 'seasonal' flower mashing' fabrics for our ruffle scarves.  I love the unexpected results. This batch came out with lots of blues and fluro yellows imprinted on the fabric. It always seems a shame to cut the fabric up for scarves... but the result is worth it! I have been thinking they would make cute summer singlets. What do you think?
